Everything you ever wanted to know and never dared to ask about Boudoir photography
Photo shoots in underwear, photos in lingerie? How does it pose, where? For all women?
Boudoir photography definitely still a taboo in some countries: it bewitches, intrigues, teases, but in fact it is always talked about a bit stealthily, amidst mischievous and allusive smiles.
All women, I can guarantee you, would love to see themselves being sensual and feel special. Something that's different from the usual. But then they fear that they are not up to par, or that it is too shameless for a good woman to show herself that way. And so in some cases they give up, others are satisfied with private shots taken in the mirror in private.
Men, are undoubtedly sensitive to the charm of this kind of images, and not too tacitly dream of seeing their woman like this. In fact, often, the idea that other strange eyes can touch the body of their beloved disturbs them to the point of rejecting the idea or opting for home shots.
The result, if all goes well, are "clandestine" photographs, cold, which have the flavor of illegal. They are images destined to remain cautiously hidden, looked at with malice, far removed from Boudoir photography.
What is the boudoir?
In boudoir photographs, the female body and sensuality are transformed into Art.
The soft light caresses the body, enhancing the fairness of the skin, the delicacy of features, the roundness of the shapes. Soft, refined shots, never vulgar or provocative, in which sensuality is just whispered and never too exposed.
The photographs are sometimes taken in black and white, using studio lights to carefully measure the play of light and shadow. They're also taken in color, using natural light, soft and delicate.
Are they photos in lingerie or photo shoots in underwear?
The boudoir photo shoot is not necessarily in underwear. On the contrary, a woman's sensuality is not measured in centimetres of exposed skin. It is the malice that transpires from a glance, the delicate gesture of a hand that hides a secret that only the truest love can reveal, the shadow that, wisely measured, protects from too greedy glances, this is boudoir. At least for the way I portray in my photos.
It is not necessary to be naked, to wear particularly sexy lingerie, stiletto heels, or dresses that do not suit you: every woman has a femininity that is inherent in her and not tied to what she wears. Barefoot, wrapped in a warm oversize sweater, or in a soft blanket, or wearing your partner's shirt, the important thing is to be at ease and express your personality, be it mischievous, sweet or tenderly funny.
I don't have a perfect body and I don't know how to pose. I'm afraid of feeling uncomfortable.
The boudoir portrait is a tribute to one's own beauty, to one's very personal way of being feminine and sensual: it is not a cover photograph, it does not celebrate the perfection of shapes, but the uniqueness of every woman, beautiful in her own way, even with her little flaws.
The women portrayed in Boudoir are real women of all ages, from the very young to the most mature, without any physical distinction, tall, short, thin, curvy. They are anything but professional models: every woman, enhanced by appropriate makeup and the right lighting, expertly guided in the most gratifying poses suited to her physicality, manages to look incredibly beautiful.
Boudoir is for all women, even the most shy and reserved, those who do not believe they can be sensual or who see themselves clumsy and inadequate. Boudoir is the most delicate and innocent of all the styles of lingerie photography.
Where does it take place and with whom?
The boudoir session usually takes place in an intimate and reserved environment warm and comfortable. I personally work in Luxury Apartments or Resorts to add a magic sense of glamour.
The key thing is that you feel comfortable and at ease: no forcing, no pressure ever. If you are not convinced you will hardly be able to get a good result. This is why it is good to rely on such a professional, well experienced photographer in boudoir style, who knows not only to put you at ease and guide you throughout the duration of the shooting with professionalism and competence, but who above all always leaves you the absolute master of the photographic project. You will be in full control of what you want or don't want to do during the photo session, the outfits to wear, the makeup and the final image you want to achieve.
